2nd Quarter Update

Stone Marine Shipcare have had a strong performance again both overseas and in the UK.

This month we have been shortlisted for SME of the Year in the Mersey Maritime Industry Awards 2021, we have been busy attending vessels across Europe and completed numerous propeller repair jobs for local partners in our Birkenhead workshop.

We also asked our Service Support Manager, Julie Hughes a few questions about her new role and her typical day at Stone Marine Shipcare.

New Local Partner

We have recently partnered with local business Briggs Marine, who we began working with in early 2020 to provide essential propeller maintenance. Stone Marine Shipcare is proud to support the work that Briggs Marine undertakes in transporting pilots to and from vessels on the Mersey and we look forward to growing our business together in the future.

Service Attendance

In July, our Service Engineers attended many CPP/Thruster service jobs overseas.

Whilst Covid restrictions differ in each country, logistically it has proven difficult when moving our Service Engineers around the world. However, our Service department work tirelessly, liaising with vessel owners, Agents and government officials to ensure that we provide Service Engineers to complete jobs on schedule and to keep essential shipping moving.

Bow Thruster Overhaul

Our Service Engineer recently completed a bow thruster overhaul in Tuzla, Turkey. Read about this job here

Controls Panel Inspection

We recently attended a vessel in Greenock where a thrust unit malfunction had been reported. The controls unit was inspected, and all PCB boards renewed. Full operation was restored from the bridge and remote controls and the unit was back in service on schedule.

Propeller Repairs at our Birkenhead Workshop

Whilst we have completed many Service attendances in July, we have also been busy in our workshop carrying out propeller repairs for our local partners and local vessel operators in the Northwest who have been utilising our rapid repair service.

CP Propeller Blade Inspection

This month we received 4off CPP blades requiring an inspection and recommendation for repair. Our experienced Propeller Technician’s completed the inspection on blades suffering from cavitation erosion and other minor damage. Work is ongoing.

Significant fuel savings can be achieved by polishing at regular intervals, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

CP Blade Inspection, Repair & Polish

Our Propeller Technician’s have recently completed a blade condition inspection on 4 CPP blades. The blades were received into the workshop with edge damage, signs of cavitation and O-Ring wear. The missing areas requiring MIG weld build up to restore blade outlines. Blade palms were machined to remove all wear grooves and damaged blade areas were MIG weld repaired, followed by a post weld heat treatment, polish, and edge reprofiling. All work was completed ahead of schedule.
